Sarah & Lisa’s Wedding @ Joldwynds House, Sussex

Sarah and Lisa—an incredible couple from Sussex and part of London’s vibrant artist community—hosted a wedding that felt more like a living artwork than a traditional event. Their day unfolded at Joldwynds House, a historic Grade 2 Listed 1930’s Art Deco Modernist House which is currently an artist residence, tucked into the rolling countryside, and it couldn’t have been a more fitting backdrop.

The day began with informal drinks on the terrace, friends and family easing into the celebration while looking out over the Sussex hills. The atmosphere was relaxed, unhurried, and full of warmth—exactly the kind of environment where real moments naturally happen.

The ceremony itself was short and deeply personal, officiated by a long-time friend of the couple who is a priestess. It felt intimate and grounded, with everyone gathered close, fully present, and emotionally invested.

After the ceremony, Sarah and Lisa did something truly special: they cooked dinner themselves for their guests. While friends and family socialised on the terrace, the couple moved between conversations and preparation, supported by loved ones helping plate, serve, and bring everything together. As the sun began to set, everyone sat down at a single long table stretching across the terrace. Dinner unfolded with games of hangman, heartfelt speeches, laughter, and the kind of shared joy that can’t be staged.

As daylight faded into night, the celebration moved indoors to the formal lounge of Jondelyn House. Guests gathered around the open fireplace, glasses in hand, as Sarah’s brother and uncle played guitar—filling the space with music, conversation, and a sense of togetherness that lingered long into the evening.

From the beginning, Sarah and Lisa asked us to take a strong documentary approach to photographing their wedding. Our focus was on blending into the crowd and capturing genuine emotion—especially the way they interacted with their friends and family throughout the day. They also wanted their creative vision fully documented: the floral installations and decorations they designed and installed themselves, and the overall production of the day, with friends actively involved in preparing and serving the meal.

This was a wedding built on community, creativity, and intention—and photographing it felt like being welcomed into something deeply personal and beautifully real.
